Events in Western Sahara – 2007

The year 2007 will be the International Year of Solidarity with the Saharawi People.
Within this framework, a conference of international solidarity will be held in Tifariti (the liberated areas of Western Sahara) from the 24th to the 28th of February. This event will coincide with the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Republic and the annual Sahara Marathon. Those wishing to participate in the events mentioned could contact AWSA to facilitate their trip.

REPORT: Morocco’s Repression in the Western Sahara is Increasing: Almost 700 Arrested in 2006.   GfBV reported on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 on a considerable increase in the violations of human rights in the areas of the West Sahara controlled by Morocco.

Landmines kill two officials, girl in W.Sahara

A young girl and a town mayor in Western Sahara died in two landmine explosions, four days after a member of parliament was killed in a similar blast, officials said on Tuesday.
