Fiji, 30 November 2006 – Seminar, UN Special Committee on Decolonisation

YANUCA ISLAND, Fiji, 30 November -– The UN Special Committee on Decolonization put forward 48 conclusions and recommendations regarding the situation in Non-Self-Governing Territories as it concluded its three-day Pacific Regional Seminar.
A statement by Kamal Fadel, representive of the Frente Polisario – Western Sahara, was presented regarding the issue of the Non-Self-Governing Territory of Western Sahara.
Text adopted by the Seminar in Fiji 2006:

Western Sahara

“With regard to Western Sahara, the participants urged the two parties to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, which will provide for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara in the context of arrangements consistent with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, noting the role and responsibilities of the parties in this respect, and urged the parties and States of the region to continue to cooperate fully with the United Nations to end the current impasse and to achieve progress towards a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution. The participants recalled the mandate of the Special Committee towards the self-determination for the people of Western Sahara.”
