AWSA (Vic) demonstration during the Annual General Meeting of Incitec Pivot

Norwatch: Norwegian investor blacklists fertilizer company

For the second time, KLP has thrown an Australian fertilizer firm out of its portfolios due to Western Sahara trade. The Western Sahara liberation movement Front Polisario congratulates KLP with its decision.

“KLP has made a right decision. It shows that their ethical and legal analysis of the phosphate industry in Western Sahara is done very thoroughly. We hope other investors will follow KLP’s example”, Brahim Mokhtar, Polisario’s representative to the Nordic countries, told Norwatch.

Hans Corell addresses Pretoria conference and provides new impetus to the resources campaign

The International conference on multilateralism and international law, with Western Sahara as a case study, was held in  Pretoria, South Africa, on 4 and 5 December 2008.  The new clarifications by Hans Corell in his paper to the conference may give fresh impetus to the resources campaign. “Friday’s meeting by Incitec shareholders again attracted a tiny demonstration outside from the Australian Western Sahara Association (AWSA)

Furness Karumba repeating shipment

In 2005, the bulk vessel Furness Karumba became known in Australia, when she shipped phosphates – and 2 dead Moroccan stowaways – from occupied Western Sahara to Australia.
The bulk carrier Furness Karumba is now on a new journey with phosphates to Australia.
The vessel is set to arrive Fremantle Ports, near Perth, on 26th of August, and stay for approximately 8 days, before continuing on the 4th of September.

Western Sahara’s government-in-exile took the unusual step last week of warning Hong Kong’s Pacific Basin Shipping that it reserved the right to use “all means” to defend its sovereignty and protect the interests of its people.
